4th XI Secure a winning draw at Kilnhurst
09 May 2011
A tight game against a competitive Kilnhurst team on a shocker of a wicket and dodgy outfield (doubles as a footy pitch)
Belly lost the toss and we were duly put in. Robbo and Al got us off to a reasonable start 32 before Al fell to a top catch from the keeper. Brad joined Robbo and got a plumber from Plummer!.
Big Andy Warren joined Robbo and they looked fairly comfortable before Robbo mistimed and was caught. 58 for 3.
Hos & Adam Cutters started to play us back into the game and put on 33 in no time before a unfortunate run out. Cutters smashed it and thought he was off to the danger end, good fielding saw the throw over the stumps and Hos was a few yards short. A mighty shame as both were looking in good touch Andy out for 30 off 30 balls.
Cutters got his head down and with Burnsy smashing away put on 54 for the next wicket. Cutters finally holed out for 30 off 21 balls. Young Mr Mason Warren was sent in with the instructions to have 2 dabs and then swing. Thats what he did, he blasted 3 fours in his 17 before being caught.
Gozzer joined Burnsy who finally succumbed to the Kilnhurst premier bowler Plummer for a good 30 off 28 balls. Captain Bell went in and smacked a four and then was stumped. Young Belly joined Goz and hit 2 fours off his 4 balls to end 8 not out. Goose 7 not out. 184 for 8 our total.
Kilnhurst got off to a good start if a little slow, Alec and Belly bowled in tandem for the 1st 12 overs Belly going for just 22 from his 6. Alec went through at the other end and bowled very tidyly for his 3 for 66 off his 20 overs. Good effort and commitmnet big Al!
It took us some time to get the first wicket but it was worth waiting for J Green (21) slashed at a good delivery from Al and Cutters took a storming reflex catch above his head.
Sean Husband got a wicket from a pie, a full toss down leg side was caught by Burnsy 74 for 2. At the other end his fellow opener was taking a bit of removing Cutters finally bowled him for 41. (100 for 3)The middle order took them upto 106 before Cutters struck again and again quickly to leave them on 133 for 6. Kilnhurst were still in in needin ony 4.5 per over. Unbeknown to us they had a long tail and when Cutters got his five fer with the removal of Jordan Green we actually took control and strangled the game. Kilnhurst parked the bus and despite two quick wickets from Al batsmen 10 and 11 managed to see out the last three overs.
The game wasn't without controversy no surprise there! The Kilnhurst team were adamant that Cutters was front foot no balling, this culminated with them standing at square leg and barracking Adam and criticising the umpires. They even took photos and video footage, common boys its a game of cricket behave yourselves! Good four points for us, we have had two of our four consecutive away games got four points fairly content with that..
